Sold Out Crowd Witnesses Batman Return in Thrilling 3-2 Shootout Win

November 24, 2012, 12:03 am

(Rapid City, SD) – Friday night at the sold out Rushmore Plaza Civic Center, the Rapid City Rush faced the Denver Cutthroats in the second of four games this week as the Rush. The Rush earned a 3-2, come-from-behind, shootout win. The evening was highlighted by the return of Rush goaltender Danny Battochio who turned aside 23 shots for his first win since February 4th of last season.

The opening frame was primarily dominated by defense before Denver’s Brad Smyth slammed home a rebound goal with 3:57 left for his seventh goal of the season.

Midway through the second period, Scott Wray collected his fifth of the season, tapping in a backdoor pass from John Snowden at the midway point. Less than two minutes later, J.P. Chabot sent a wrist shot from the top of the right circle that was deflected in by Troy Schwab to reclaim a one goal lead by the second intermission.

The Rush offense came alive in the third frame out-shooting the Cutthroats 17-6. The team finally broke through goaltender Kieran Millan nine minutes in when John Snowden potted the equalizer on his second goal of the season with a backhander to the top-left corner.

After a scoreless overtime period, the game headed to a shootout, Rapid City’s second in the last three games. Battochio turned aside three of four Cutthroat attempts, while Jarrett Konkle and Damian Surma set the stage for Scott Wray who sealed the 3-2 win with a shootout goal in the fifth round.

The Rush and the Cutthroats will meet two more times this weekend in the Denver Coliseum. The next home game is Friday, November 30th as the Rush take on the Bloomington Blaze and tickets are available by calling 716-7825 or online at gotmine.com.
