Rush End Season-Long Road Trip Unbeaten With 3-2 Victory Over Sundogs

February 6, 2010, 11:16 pm

(Prescott Valley, AZ) – The Rapid City Rush concluded their season-long seven game road trip with a 3-2 win over the Arizona Sundogs on Saturday night.  The Rush went 5-0-2 on the trip, collecting twelve of a possible fourteen points and extending the lead in the Northern Conference.  Rapid City extends the road unbeaten streak to thirteen games as the penalty kill was on display, killing off twelve of the Sundogs’ thirteen chances.  All of the scoring came in the second period as the two teams exchanged a total of five goals.

The Rush spent the majority of the opening period in the penalty box, accumulating 21 penalty minutes which included a game misconduct for forward Jon Pelle.  Rapid City killed off all four Arizona powerplay chances which included over a minute of 5-on-3 to escape the first period scoreless.

With no scoring in the first, the two teams made up for it with five goals in the second period.  Scoring the game’s opening goal was Les Reaney when he tipped home a Luke Erickson shot for his 23rd goal at the 3:46 mark.  The Sundogs would strike back when Kevin Gardner set up Linus Fagemo in the slot area and Fagemo buried to the top-left corner 8:11 in.  One minute and five seconds later, Colt King was hooked on a breakaway chance, resulting in his second penalty shot of the season.  On the attempt, King made a move to the forehand and finished five-hole on Kyle McNulty to regain the lead for the Rush.  The Sundogs would bounce back with five minutes left in the period as Marc Belanger took advantage of a chance from the left faceoff circle to roof the puck for the equalizer.  Continuing with the back and forth trend, the Rush would answer back just 34 seconds later.  A puck lofted out of the zone was misplayed by the Sundog defense and Scott Wray settled the bouncing puck in the slot and fired it low-blocker side for the go-ahead and game-winning goal.

Miguel Beaudry stopped 25 for his second straight win and 13th of the season while Kyle McNulty was dealt the loss.  Rapid City was scoreless on six chances while stifling the Sundogs on 12 of their 13 chances.

The Rush now head home to clash against the league-leading Odessa Jackalopes for “Pink at the Rink” night on Friday, January 12th.  Limited tickets are still available.
